Plasterer Equipment Company Inc.
Brothers Isaac and Jacob Plasterer founded what would become Plasterer Equipment in 1912. Their initial company primarily sold REO Trucks and Waterloo tractors.
In 1918, John Deere purchased the Waterloo tractor works, which led to Plasterer becoming full-line John Deere dealer. Plasterer has a strong tie to the farming community — its agricultural heritage taught the company, and all who have ever worked fore the dealer, the value of hard work, family values, and customer satisfaction.
In 1941, Jacob sold the business to his son, Elmer. The business flourished in its second generation.
The motto was “Here comes Elmer” and the logo had clear symbolism to the trademark John Deere plow and Pennsylvania Dutch culture.
Entering the Construction Industry
In 1956, John Deere entered the construction industry and so did Plasterer Equipment. A new division of the company was formed, led by a young man named Leon Houser. The construction business grew methodically through the 1960s and by 1970, a second location was built in Bethlehem, Pa.
Leon Houser became sole shareholder and owner of Elmer E. Plasterer Inc. in 1971, and with his wife, Pat, the company passed into its third generation. Under Leon's leadership in the 1970s, the company obtained John Deere sales awards and by 1977 a new location was built in Lebanon, Pa., specializing exclusively in the sales and service of John Deere construction equipment.
A Name Change
The company name was changed to “Plasterer Equipment Co., Inc.” and the logo was changed, too, so that both would more accurately reflect the company’s primary business, construction equipment.
Through out the 1980s, the company prospered and earned the Gold Level “Mark of Excellence” award from John Deere eight years in a row. This award recognized superior performance in customer satisfaction, sales, and management.
In 1998, Leon's son, Tim, assumed leadership of the company when he was named company president, thus transitioning the company into its fourth generation of family ownership.
Leon's daughter, Sue, also is active in the business. The company logo was changed to a dozer on the horizon reflecting Plasterer Equipment’s and John Deere's aligned vision of becoming a premier manufacturer and distributor of construction equipment globally. Over the next five years, the company added two more locations: Sellersville, Pa., and Lewisberry, Pa. — both extending Plasterer's geographic trade area to more than double.
Significant growth has not changed the family culture. The company’s family values extend to its employees, reflected in its commitment to training, employee benefits, an enjoyable place to work, technology and continuous improvement. Plasterer Equipment’s employees extend that commitment to customers, which is always reflected in a sense of urgency, working hours, emergency service, parts stocking, next-day availability, and flexibility in how the dealer does business.
Plasterer Equipment carries an extensive lineup of John Deere equipment, including backhoes, crawler dozers, mini-excavators, motorgraders, articulated dump trucks, log skidders, wheel loaders, compact track loaders, skid steers, tracked feller bunchers, knuckleboom loaders and more.
